What I missed about Dorset..

What I missed about England part one: the Dorset village

During these precious few weeks in the UK, we visited my sister Ginny at her glorious centuries-old cottage in Buckland Newton near Dorchester where everybody knows everybody and where she has lived for the last 27 years.  It was a glorious winter’s day, cold but with bright sunlight and blue skies which, as any amateur photographer would tell you, are the perfect conditions for taking a decent photo.

England, oh England!  Wishing to document just what it is that makes English village life so very special, and in particular this Dorset village, I just walked around the village, snapping randomly here and there.  I didn’t photograph the village shop, or the village hall, but concentrated on the things I continue to really miss, things that remain etched in my memory when I am in an alien country parched dry from the sun with no real sense of community.  I miss things like:
